When in 1977 Beresford Hayward, of the Organisation for Economic and Cultural Development (OECD) asked us to prepare a psychoanalytical model of the relation of the family to the community, he had in mind an instrument for use in an international study of educational processes, a model which could be used to integrate findings of a multidisciplinary approach. This request was timely for us as we had embarked on a plan to produce a revised diagnostic system for child guidance clinics which would bring together knowledge and methods of study directed variously towards the individual, the family and the community. The result was called ‘A Model of the Child-in-the-Family-in-the-Community’.
This chapter aims first to display the classification of family patterns we described in the ‘Model’, and then to explore the relation of these patterns to learning processes and corresponding educational conflicts. The theoretical model employed was the Kleinian-Bionic model as described in The Kleinian Development. Family life was envisioned as a more or less stable organisation of three general types: 1) the family proper (couple family), 2) the narcissistic gang, 3) the Basic Assumption Group (BA). Within these three types of organisation we made the distinction between individuals occupying special roles and fulfilling particular functions. The roles are assumed to comprise culturally defined prerogatives, responsibilities and privileges, and therefore variable from culture to culture. The functions, however, we named as follows:See All

It's true that many of the people who use Emacs are developers, writing code, tweaking it, recompiling it, and just generally enjoying the services of an amazingly extensible work environment. A variety of people, including developers, need to produce text for publication, whether internally, online, or in book format. This chapter describes the markup language support that Emacs offers, a topic relevant to both information publishers and developers, as more and more development work uses variants of the Extensible Markup Language, XML.
Choosing a format for producing documents isn't all that straightforward these days, especially if you eschew Microsoft Word. Some people write HTML, and Emacs offers a few options for this. HTML gives you some control over formatting but displays differently on various browsers. Of course, it is important as the lingua franca of the Web.
Other text publishing options include the TEX family. TEX (pronounced "tek") is a formatter that was developed by Donald Knuth for generating books. LATEX (pronounced "lay-tek") is a set of TEX commands created by Leslie Lamport. With TEX and LATEX , you can produce very precisely formatted text with equations, interesting fonts, graphics, headers and footers, and the like. Whether using filters or features of the program itself, you can publish TEX documents in a variety of formats.See All

he Big Thicket National Preserve now moved from the legislative to the administrative phase, but it was a stage no less critical. A shortage of federal land acquisition funds delayed the purchase of all the Preserve units for a number of years. Meanwhile, timber interests, hunters, fishermen, cattlemen, land developers, farmers, and oil prospectors continued to compete for the natural resources of the Thicket until title to the land passed to the federal government. Nevertheless, by creating the
Big Thicket National Preserve, Congress ensured that the Big Thicket would continue to exist and to influence, as it always has, the way man lives in southeast Texas.
More than any other group, the Texas congressional delegation must shoulder the responsibility for permitting the struggle over the Thicket to last for nearly a decade. Both the timber industry and preservationists desired to save the timber resources of the Big Thicket, although for vastly different reasons. The desire to conserve the timber resources of the region was a common denominator, which the Texas congressmen could have exploited to forge a compromise solution.See All

You can manage even a ginormous library of books by looking at smaller groups of books and sorting them according to your at-the-moment needs. Both the Mac and the iOS versions of iBooks help you browse your Library with groups and sorts, but their approaches are different enough to be confusing if you use iBooks on both platforms.
On the Mac, you have five views to choose from: four are icon-based and one is a list. Switching views means looking at different groupings of books, with different sorting options, with no choice as to whether its in icon or list form. The Collections viewwith handy user-defined groups along with three permanent divisionsis just one of the views.
On the iPad, you have two types of viewsIcon and Listand which books are displayed is controlled solely by a selection from the Collections popover; Collections itself is not a view. Icon views can be sorted only manually, while List views provides sorting and grouping options that dont all match whats available on the Mac.See All
