An Automated Deduction of a "Dishkant-Implication-Restricted" Foulis-Holland Theorem from Orthomodular Quantum Logic: Part 2

Int'l Conf. Artificial Intelligence | ICAI'13 |

381

An Automated Deduction of a "DishkantImplication-Restricted" Foulis-Holland Theorem from Orthomodular Quantum Logic: Part 2

Jack K. Horner

P. O. Box 266

Los Alamos, New Mexico 87544 USA

ICAI 2013

Abstract

The optimization of quantum computing circuitry and compilers at some level must be expressed in terms of quantum-mechanical behaviors and operations. The algebra, C(H), of closed linear subspaces of

(equivalently, the system of linear operators on (observables in)) a Hilbert space is a logic of the system of

"measurement-propositions" quantum mechanical systems and is a model of an ortholattice (OL). An OL can thus be thought of as a kind of “quantum logic” (QL). C(H) is also a model of an orthomodular lattice

(OML), which is an ortholattice to which the orthomodular law has been conjoined. An OML can thus be regarded as an orthomodular (quantum) logic (OMLogic). Now a QL can be thought of as a BL in which the distributive law does not hold. Under certain commutativity conditions, a QL does satisfy the distributive law; among the most well known of these relationships are the Foulis-Holland theorems
See more

Browns Head and Goose Rocks Lights

Slice ePub December 02, 2014

I sailed Steer Clear into the Fox Islands Thorofare for more than eighteen summers. We never cruised through, direct from Browns Head Light to Goose Rock Light at the other end, then out into Penobscot Bay and across to Stonington and Deer Isle. Instead, we always stopped at J.O. Brown’s dock for a talk with Jim, and to top our fuel tanks. But it wasn’t the best place to fill water tanks. The water was brown. So was the ice, if it had been frozen from local water—even Jim called it “swamp ice.” Then we restocked food supplies from Waterman’s, the general store close to Brown’s wharf. Franklin Waterman was the butcher there, and it would be hard to find better meat anywhere. Gordon Peters did the books from an upstairs office for many years. His wife, Irma, presided over the cash register on the main floor and knew everyone by name, and every bit of news.

Frequently we’d mosey across the Thorofare after these pleasant chores were done and spend the night tucked inside Perry’s Creek, one of the most protected anchorages and best sleeping grounds along the island route down east.

Chest aching, stomach churning, Roberta splashed water on her face as she fought back tears of shock, horror, and deep hurt. She could not believe what she’d just heard. She honestly thought she and Daniel were totally aligned. What a way to find out they weren’t!

The company president had given Roberta the responsibility of overseeing the design and development of a major building complex. Roberta had asked Daniel to work with her on developing the proposal outlining the approach to the project. She had tremendous respect for Daniel’s skill and talent, and they had worked well together in the past.

Roberta felt that she and Daniel had developed a solid proposal and looked forward to reviewing it with the president. At the start of the review meeting, she could not believe her ears when the president mentioned that Daniel had stopped into his office that morning—behind Roberta’s back—and announced that he had major concerns about the proposal and about Roberta’s ability to oversee the project. Roberta was flabbergasted.
