The Types of Android Components

Slice ePub May 27, 2014

Android apps are composed of one of more components, of which there are multiple types. Each component can be secured in a slightly different way, so before we start talking about how to do so, a quick review of the types of components should be helpful.

The component that most Android developers learn about first is the Activity. An Activity is analogous to a single screen displayed on the device to a user that is composed of what the user actually sees. When building an app, you create classes that derive from the Activity base class and typically contain one or more Views, which are objects that users can interact with in some way, such as reading text displayed within the View, clicking a button, and so on. In proper application development terminology, the set of Activities is your applications presentation layer.

A Service is an Android component that is designed for background processing. These components can run when your app is not visible (that is, none of its Activities are being displayed to the user and are not active). Services typically either carry out some computations or update the data sources for your app. For example, if you were to build an email client app, a Service would run in the background to open up connections to the configured mail servers every so often, check for new mail, download it, and store new messages in the local database. Services can also be used to update Activities directly, to provide updates to the user directly via a Notification, or really for any other type of task that needs to occur in the background.

Chapter 2 - Teleology: The Vocation of Man

Slice ePub September 06, 2013

Speculation as to the why of human existence receives its most profound and comprehensive answer in the familiar words of the Westminster Shorter Catechism: to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. This seemingly simple statement, devoid of meaning to the positivist, is for the believer an inexhaustible fount of spiritual illumination which irradiates and clarifies in principle the whole of life. For the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness unto him, neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.1 But the man of faith affirms with Augustine and Anselm, I believe [in order] that I may know, echoing in his heart the declaration of the Psalmist: With thee is the fountain of life, and in thy light do we see light. 2 Such belief, of course, is not a matter of servile submission to external authority (as some passages in Augustine and Anselm might suggest), but a matter of free, experiential loyalty.3 The catechetical definition is, however, an abstract one, and can be made to yield specific content only as interpreted by a creatively devout imagination drawing upon insights from whatever sources, be they sacred or secular, through which the vivifying Spirit ofTruth imparts its witness. Using this method, I have been led to approach the formal definition from four angles, each of which represents a different, yet integrally related, dimension of its content. These dimensions (which posit each other at the highest level of development) I shall call respectively, for want of better terminology, mystical union, creative perception, psychological integration, and social communion. Let us examine each of these in turn.

PDGs have been used to detect software plagiarism. The current methods of constructing PDGs do not include data dependence incurred by Python's dynamic reference. This paper describes the situation when the conventional PDGs do not include data dependence incurred by Python's dynamic reference, and proposes an algorithm to add data dependence edges of Python's dynamic reference to

PDGs.

Keywords: Program dependence graph, Python, Dynamic reference, Program plagiarism detection

1

Introduction

Python is a general purpose, dynamic programming language, and is widely used in various fields, such as web applications, game development and the creation of desktop and mobile applications[1][2]. Like other dynamic languages, programs in Python are executed through interpreters. This means that source codes of Python can be open to its users.
