5.5 Setting Targets

Management Information

5.1   Introduction

A successful business must use all resources efficiently. Energy must not be an exception to this rule but too often there is little control over how and where energy is being used. Before the use of energy can be examined, however, it must first be measured. Therefore one of the first tasks in gaining control over energy use is to set up a monitoring and recording system so as to provide the management information required to determine how and where energy can be saved.

A technique which can provide the necessary information is Monitoring and Targeting (M&T). This is a management technique which aims to control energy costs by integrating energy management into the existing site management structure. Managers are made responsible for energy use in the areas under their control, in the same way as they are responsible for other controllable resources.

In order to control energy costs managers need information on energy use and performance. Energy consumption must also be related to the variables which affect it. This information must then be provided to nominated managers responsible for energy in a manner which is both timely and appropriate.

Comprehension Queries

Slice ePub May 28, 2014

C# provides a syntactic shortcut for writing LINQ queries, called query comprehension syntax, or simply query syntax.

In the preceding section, we wrote a query to extract strings containing the letter a, sorted by length, and converted to uppercase. Heres the same query in comprehension syntax:

A comprehension query always starts with a from clause and ends with either a select or group clause. The from clause declares an iteration variable (in this case, n), which you can think of as traversing the input collectionrather like foreach. Figure1-2 illustrates the complete syntax.

Figure1-2.Query comprehension syntax

The compiler processes comprehension queries by translating them to lambda syntax. It does this in a fairly mechanical fashionmuch like it translates foreach statements into calls to GetEnumerator and MoveNext. This means that anything you can write in comprehension syntax you can also write in lambda syntax. The compiler translates our example query into the following:

Meanwhile, in Havana, Abuela sat in her rocking chair and prayed the rosary. The white beads of her rosary passed gently through her fingers as she fervently prayed each Hail Mary. She had first prayed incessantly for the safe arrival of her family, and now she prayed that she could be reunited with them soon. Those first anxiety-ridden days, knowing her family was out at sea risking their lives, kept her from any sleep. She had consoled so many women who had come to church crying desperately because their families had been lost at sea. For one long week, she had been in their shoes, pacing around her small apartment alone, praying to God that they would make it all right.

As planned, the day after her family had left, she burst into the police headquarters pretending she didn’t know where they had gone.

“Please, tell me. What have you done with them?” she asked the young man in a military uniform, who had no idea what she was talking about.

“My daughter, her husband, and my grandson have disappeared!” Abuela said frantically. “They couldn’t have all disappeared at the same time. The government must be questioning them somewhere, but why?” she begged to know.

Sacraments of Christian Initiation

What is Baptism?

Baptism is the sacrament in which Jesus sends us his Spirit, who frees us from sin and gives us the grace by which we become God’s children, heirs of heaven, members of the Church, and temples of the Blessed Trinity. (1213)

You were buried with him in baptism and in baptism you also rose with him through faith in the power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. (Col 2:12)

From what sins does Jesus set us free in Baptism?

In Baptism Jesus sets us free from original sin and all personal sins we may have committed before being baptized, as well as all punishment due for sin. (1263)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy we have been reborn to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.… (1 Pt 1:3)

What other effects does Baptism have?

At Baptism we receive sanctifying grace, the theological or God-given virtues, and the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. We become new creatures, partakers of the divine nature, coheirs with Christ, members of his Church, and temples of the Holy Spirit. (1265–1266)

Chapter 6 – Our Early Missions

Our Early Missions

IT WAS ABOUT 4:45 P.M. when Frank and Mackey returned to the hut and told me that we were on the alert list for tomorrow’s mission. I thought they were joking, but they were not. I put on my clothes and went over to the bulletin board to see for myself, and sure enough my name was there. I continued to have the feeling that we were just a number.

My spirits were as low as they could get. It had now been six weeks since I kissed Jean and said goodbye. I had been on the move ever since and, as a result, had not received any mail. Not having any letters from Jean or any of my family was very discouraging.

Later that day I attended mail call, hoping that maybe I would get at least one letter, but no such luck. I returned to our hut and my crew gathered and we talked about the next day’s mission. We all tried to joke and see the lighter side, but there was not much to laugh about—at least for me. I still had fresh memories of the mission I

flew earlier that day and how lucky I was to survive. I could not concentrate too much on tomorrow’s mission for thinking of the one
