HETHER YOU ARE TRAVELING BY PLANE OR AUTOMOBILE, alone or with a companion, or if your children are traveling solo, the most important safety advice for anyone at any age is to use common sense: dont put yourself into situations where you increase your risk of getting lost, injured, attacked, or killed. If something doesnt feel right, it probably isnt.
Although many safety tips may seem quite obvious, travelersespecially those on vacationmay be looking for a good time while overlooking potential hazards. Its more fun to be laid back than it is to be vigilant, but at an unfamiliar destination or in a foreign land, awareness of your surroundings is a necessity.
Know and obey the laws of the country in which you are traveling. Dont assume that what is acceptable in the United States is acceptable abroad! Get international law information at www.travisa.com.
Know where you are headed, and know how to get back. Be prepared for a road emergency. Teach your children what to do if you are separated. Be careful with your credit cards and other identificationidentity theft occurs worldwide, so dont think it cant happen to you (see page 128). By following the guidelines in this chapter, youll substantially decrease your chances of jeopardizing your safety and well-being, or that of your family.
As demonstrated in the previous chapter, the Closure Compiler is a
tremendous tool, but it turns out that it has even more to offer if you are
willing to take a peek at the source code. For starters, there are
additional optimizations and checks that you can enable if you use the
Compiler via its programmatic API, as explained in the section Hidden Options. Then in Example: Extending CommandLineRunner,
you will learn how to create your own Compiler executable that will run
exactly the compiler passes that you want. Finally, you will explore the
before diving into any of those things, we will take a tour of the codebase
of the Closure Compiler.
Chapter12 provided a simple example of
using the Closure Compiler via its programmatic API. This section will
package used in that example, as well as some others that will be necessary to follow the code samples that
appear later in this chapter.
Lawyer Amanda Bonner: And after you shot your husband... how did you feel?
Defendant Doris Attinger: Hungry!
Adams Rib, 1949
Patrick lost another one in the dark and rain. He was very high up the mountain, where the terrain is steep and treacherous. Hed been tracking a buck and took a shot. The hit was fatal, but the kill wasnt instantaneous. Running after it, Patrick found bone, blood, and hair before the pounding rain washed the trace away. A weaker animal would have dropped in its tracks. Five friends came out the next morning to look for it, and all they found was the gut pile left by a stranger whod stumbled across it.
Is it poaching to take another mans quarry? Its not unusual for hunters to lose their animals in the forest. Humans stand out. Animals blend in. Within seconds, the wildlife can vanish, even if you know exactly where they are going. So if a hunter stumbles across a buck felled by another mans bullet, the right thing to do is to dress and hang the carcass, alert the game warden, and have a nice day. To walk off with the deer violates an unwritten code. Its the hunters version of the girl crush. A nice girl never steals a boy that her girlfriend likes. A tramp would hit on him just for fun, and steal him if she could. Its one of the ways you know shes a tramp. Sure, alls fair in love and warbut in real life, its not exactly true.
What we need to do is learn to work in the system, by which I
mean that everybody, every team, every platform, every division, every
component is there not for individual competitive profit or
recognition, but for contribution to the system as a whole on a
A podular organization requires support structures that network
the pods together so they can coordinate their activities, share

A platform is a support structure that increases the
effectiveness of a community. Some platforms are public. For example, a local farmers
market or swap meet clusters sellers together so they can attract more
buyers. Like local swap meets, eBay and Craigslist provide platforms for people to buy and sell used goods or
unique items. Amazons Mechanical Turk provides a marketplace for
buyers and sellers of human labor at a micro scaletiny bits of work
for tiny bits of money. The Internet is another public platform. So is
the Global Positioning System (GPS) that allows you to track your
location by satellite.
