20. Messages

Slice ePub May 29, 2014

Messages does seven things very well:

Instant messaging. If you dont know what instant messaging is, theres a teenager near you who does.

Instant messaging combines the privacy of email and the immediacy of the phone. You type messages in a chat window, and your friends type replies back to you in real time.

In this regard, Messages is a lot like the popular standalone messenger apps from AOL and Yahoo. But Messages lets you type back and forth with anyone from the AOL, Yahoo, Google Talk, and Facebook chat networks, all in a single program, which is a huge advantage. And Messagess visual design is pure Apple.

Unified chat/text messages with phones (iMessages). This is huge. If you and your conversation partner both have iCloud accounts, then you can move freely from phone to tablet to Mac. Your conversation is auto-synced between gadgets. If you started texting someone on the train home, you can sit down at your Mac and open Messagesand pick up right from where you left off.

7 The Power of Connectors

Slice ePub May 14, 2014

BUILDING COMMUNITY COMPETENCE depends on initiatives that result in more individual connections and more associational connections. The basic question is how to multiply the connections and associations in the modern world we live in. The answer begins with those who have the capacity to connect others in our current neighborhoods. We call these people community connectors. In answering the question of what action we can take to create more abundant communities, we want to elevate and make more visible people who have this connecting capacity. We also want to encourage each of us to discover the connecting possibility in our own selves.

We can’t hire a community connector. There is no degree in community connecting, and we are not advocates for one. It is not taught by the academy, which is fortunate, for that means it has not been curricularized, certified, managed, or adopted by a system. So, who will do the connecting? What about us? We are as likely as any other neighbor to be a connector or have the potential to become one.

CRC.createRadialGradient() creates a radial color gradient

A CanvasGradient object representing a radial color gradient.

This method creates and returns a new CanvasGradient object that radially interpolates colors between the circumferences of the two specified circles. Note that this method does not specify any colors for the gradient. Use the addColorStop() method of the returned object to do that. To stroke lines or fill areas using a gradient, assign a CanvasGradient object to the strokeStyle or fillStyle properties.

Radial gradients are rendered by using the color at offset 0 for the circumference of the first circle, the color at offset 1 for the second circle, and interpolated color values at circles between the two.

CanvasGradient.addColorStop(), CRC.createLinearGradient()
