A Learning Model of Simple Computing Machine Architecture

Tai-Chi Lee and Hector Zimmermann-Ayala

Department of Computer Science and Information Systems

Saginaw Valley State University

University Center, MI 48710

This work emerged from an independent study project, which involved building a simple machine with few registers and limited memory that could execute a program in the machine language of binary code. The purpose of this project is to learn the basic concepts and the fundamental logic design of a processor, the basic machine architecture is outlined. In order to fully understand how an instruction set gets executed, first the instruction format must be well defined and with implemented simplicity where we only limit our instruction types to the minimum to reduce size of the instruction set, which makes it easier to follow when analyzing and synthesizing the functionality of various components in a processor. For example, the arithmetic operations consist only of Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division.

Greek Mythology: Pandora’s Box

Myths and legends are among the most ancient forms of literature. These stories of gods, goddesses, mortals, and heroes were created by almost every civilization. They were passed down by poets, storytellers, and musicians in order to entertain and instruct. Myths answer universal questions such as these: Why are there seasons? and How did the world begin? Some Greek myths describe the mischief of gods and goddesses. Read on to find out how the ancient Greeks explained the evils of their world.

Pandora’s Box

Zeus, king of gods, was angry.

The humans had learned about fire!

It was a gift that Zeus had intended for the gods alone. Zeus decided that

Pandora, the first mortal woman, would punish the upstart humans.

Before she was sent to earth, all the gods and goddesses gave Pandora gifts. Aphrodite gave her beauty.

Apollo gave her music. Athena gave her wisdom. Zeus gave her curiosity.

Then he handed Pandora a golden box. “Pandora,” Zeus warned, “you mustn’t open this!”

G.M. Hopkins in Glasgow

For J.A .M.R.

Ea rnestly nervous yet forthright, melted by bulk and warmth a nd unimposed rough grace, he lit a ready fuse from face to face of Irish Glasgow. Dark tough tight-belted drunken Fenian poor ex-Ulstermen crouched round a brazier like a burning bush and lurched into his soul with such a push that British angels blanched in mid-amen to see their soldier stumble like a Red .

Industry's pauperism singed his creed .

He blessed them, frowned, beat on his hands. The loa d of coal-black darkness clattering on his head h alf-crushed, half-fed the bluely burning need that trudged him back along North Woodside Road.

For P. McC.

A Slav philosopher in Stronachlachar:

Vladimir Solovyov looked down the loch .

Th e sun was shimmering on birk and sauch.

'This beats the fishy vennels of St Machar,' he said, and added, 'Inversnaid tomorrow!'

A boatman rowing to him from infinity turned out to be a boatwoman. 'Divinity!' he cried, 'shake back your hair, and shake back sorrow!'
